Description
Chesapeake Climate Action Network is seeking an experienced social media specialist to expand our audience and mobilize supporters to take action for the climate.
The Social Media Manager is responsible for creating, managing, and optimizing content across platforms and highlighting key organizational and campaign moments. The manager will think holistically about our social media environment, creating and enabling others on our team to create content that broadens and grows our audience. Our ideal candidate brings an ability to enhance and expand social media presence and effectiveness as a cause-driven influencer or for a nonprofit or for-profit organization. This person should thrive at the intersection of storytelling and strategy, understand how audiences engage with cause-driven content, and execute with speed and quality across formats.
About Us
Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) is the only group in the Chesapeake region of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC, dedicated exclusively to building a powerful grassroots movement to fight climate change. We envision an equitable energy future where truly clean sources of power - solar, wind, and geothermal - sustain every aspect of our lives, efficiency is prioritized, and fossil fuels have been phased out. We are working on bold campaigns that would result in energy policies matching the scale of the climate crisis. Since 2002, we have been pushing the envelope of what’s politically possible in the Chesapeake region and beyond, using every tool inside and outside the box—from organizing to lobbying to the law.

- Use social media to tell the story of our campaigns and inspire audiences to action.
- Recruit, coach, and collaborate with colleagues on content development to make our outreach more scalable while also enhancing quality and impact.
Platform and Channel Management
- Evaluate CCAN’s existing social media channels, compare them to channels used by other nonprofits, and identify strategies to increase engagement and reach.
- Measurably increase engagement (followers and clicks) across platforms.
- Monitor content performance and provide regular reporting on engagement, reach, and audience growth.
Analytics and Optimization
- Track and analyze content performance across channels, measuring our results alongside other nonprofit peers, using data to identify what’s working and where to optimize.
- Develop regular content performance reports and surface insights to inform strategy.
- Test content formats, messaging angles, and distribution approaches to continuously improve audience engagement.
- Watch for outstanding third-party content providers, especially those speaking to our issues, and explore opportunities for leveraging sponsored content.
