Social Media Manager
Dr. Anil Kumar for Congress | Michigan's 11th Congressional District (Independent)
Reports to: Senior Advisor / Campaign Manager (“The Campaign”)
Location: Candidates must be based in Metro Detroit. Some travel across the district is required.
Status: Full-time, salaried, through November 2026
Start date: Immediate
About the Campaign
Dr. Anil Kumar is running as an Independent to represent Michigan's 11th Congressional District. Dr. Kumar is a practicing physician, community leader, and longtime Oakland County resident running a people-powered campaign built on healthcare access, economic fairness, and restoring trust in government. We are building a disciplined, modern operation that reaches voters where they already are: on their phones.
Position Summary
The Social Media Manager owns the day-to-day voice of the campaign across every platform. You will turn campaign priorities into short vertical videos, bold graphics, and sharp copy that travels. You will lead a content calendar that feeds the feed daily, respond to news in real time, and build an audience that shows up to vote. This is a builder role for someone who thinks in hooks, edits on their phone, and knows what makes Michigan voters stop scrolling.
Core Responsibilities
Content Strategy and Execution
Own the weekly content calendar across Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, YouTube, and Threads. Translate the campaign's priority messages into platform native content with a clear hook, clear conflict, and clear impact. Keep one message per post. Avoid institutional framing. Lead with impact.
Video First Production
Shoot, edit, and publish short vertical videos daily. Capture Dr. Kumar at events, in district visits, and town halls. Build a reliable pipeline of 15 to 60-second videos that feel authentic, not polished. Maintain a shot list and B-roll library.
Graphics and Design Execution
Produce on brand graphics in Canva, Figma, or Adobe tools using the locked Kumar visual system (colors, typography, motif).
Rapid Response
Monitor the news cycle, opponent activity, and district conversation in real time. Draft and ship response content within the hour when the moment calls for it. Coordinate with the Campaign on tone and timing.
Community Management
Respond to comments, DMs, and mentions in the campaign voice. Escalate voter service requests, press inquiries, and threats. Grow and protect the comment section as a campaign asset.
Audience Growth and Analytics
Track reach, engagement, follower growth, and conversions to email signups and volunteer actions. Publish a weekly performance memo with what worked, what did not, and what we are testing next week. Own relationships with creators and allied accounts across the district.
Paid Social Coordination
Partner with the digital or outside firm to identify organic winners worth boosting. Build post archives that feed boosted content, fundraising ads, and persuasion targeting.
Website and Email Alignment
Ensure social activity drives traffic to drkumarforcongress.org, the volunteer signup, and the donate page. Coordinate with the email program so major moments hit every channel the same day.
Qualifications
Required
Two or more cycles, or equivalent years, managing social for a campaign, advocacy organization, public figure, or mission-driven brand.
Proven track record growing an account on TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts.
Native fluency in short vertical video editing (CapCut, Premiere, or equivalent).
Strong writing instincts: you can write a hook in five words.
Comfortable shooting on a phone and directing a principal on the fly.
Discipline to stay on message and on brand when the pace is fast.
Available evenings and weekends when the news cycle demands it.
Committed to the values of the campaign.
Preferred
Ties to Michigan's 11th District or Metro Detroit.
Experience with Meta Business Manager and creator partnerships.
Motion graphics or After Effects experience.
Photography and podcast editing experience.
Familiarity with political compliance basics, including disclaimers and disclosure rules.
