Job DescriptionThe University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking a Part-Time Contractual Marketing Specialist. The Marketing Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the marketing and communications of UMB administrative units and schools. Administer marketing projects from request to completion by coordinating workflow, timelines, deadlines, and budgets. This position is responsible for managing the creation of marketing materials to target audiences.
This is a part-time position (20 hours/week).
UMB is a public university and constituent institution of the University System of Maryland. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland.
Essential Functions:
- Support department, school, or University's marketing and communications across a multifaceted marketing plan, which includes publications, social media, and web content creation/management. Assist in the development and implementation of marketing strategies.
- Identify the communication needs and goals and develop and execute effective marketing strategies to achieve those goals. Define desired outcomes and deadlines.
- Maintain operational effectiveness within the marketing function to ensure projects specifications and defined outcomes are met.
- Maintain the University's email marketing system, which includes developing newsletters, announcements, and invitations, as well as other targeted emails based on need. Make recommendations on the best use of current email marketing through maintaining and reviewing analytics.
- Assist with social media, including creating and publishing content, moderating accounts, and evaluating new social media outlets.
- Manage production and distribution of marketing materials, including brochures, direct mail, and advertising, to a target audience. Generate proposals, contracts and other documents to secure business. Negotiate terms and conditions with some latitude.
- Research, write, edit, and summarize content for inclusion in marketing materials for distribution and the web.
- Assist with general administrative and finance functions, including internal billing and business management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree. Degree in marketing, communications, journalism, business, or related field of study is preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in marketing, communications, public or client relations.
Supervisory Experience: N/A.
Certification/Licensure: N/A.
Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. HIRING RANGE: $30.21 - $34.52 hourly, commensurate with education and experience.
