- Adult Primary Care Medical Director and Assistant CMO
Description
Caring Health Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, is seeking an Adult Primary Care Medical Director and Assistant Chief Medical Officer. This is one integrated physician leadership position reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer, with an administrative portfolio designed to grow.
ROLE AT A GLANCE
Integrated clinical and executive leadership opportunity
Approximately 50–60% outpatient clinical practice
Protected administrative time scheduled within the physician template
Direct mentorship from the Chief Medical Officer
No inpatient clinical responsibilities
Epic electronic health record
A ROLE BUILT FOR DEVELOPMENT
Most physicians who want to become executives have to find their own way there. This role is structured to do the opposite. You will work directly with and be mentored by the Chief Medical Officer, who has a long record of developing physicians into senior leaders. You will gain hands-on experience in clinical operations, finance, physician management, quality, and organizational strategy.
The scope of your Assistant Chief Medical Officer responsibilities will expand over time based on your experience, interests, and organizational needs. Formal leadership experience is welcomed but not required. We are equally interested in sitting medical directors ready for a broader portfolio and excellent physicians stepping into their first formal leadership role.
WHY A COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER
Federally Qualified Health Centers offer physician leaders something increasingly rare: direct accountability for population outcomes, a payer environment that rewards better care rather than more volume, and a mission that holds up under scrutiny.
Caring Health Center serves Springfield and the surrounding Western Massachusetts communities, with a diverse, multilingual patient population and a substantial share of patients in value-based and accountable care arrangements.
LIFE IN SPRINGFIELD
Springfield is at the center of the Pioneer Valley, a region rich in colleges and universities, with year-round outdoor recreation, cultural amenities, and a cost of living that remains attractive relative to many major Northeast markets.
THE OPPORTUNITY
You will provide physician leadership and clinical oversight for adult primary care and partner with the Chief Medical Officer on broader organizational priorities. You will:
Play a key leadership role in quality, patient safety, population health, and value-based care across our accountable care and value-based populations.
Mentor, coach, and develop physicians and advanced practice providers.
Partner with clinical, nursing, operational, and administrative leaders to improve access, clinical performance, care delivery, and patient experience.
Participate in clinician recruitment, onboarding, professional development, and performance improvement.
Help shape clinical strategy, programs, staffing models, and organizational growth.
Play a central leadership role as Caring Health Center plans to develop future residency training programs and academic partnerships.
Continue meaningful outpatient clinical practice appropriate to your training and scope of practice.
Take on increasing responsibility in clinical operations, finance, physician management, and organizational leadership.
CLINICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE BALANCE
The position is approximately 50–60% clinical, with administrative time scheduled in your template rather than expected outside of clinic hours.
