Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) is a multi-campus institution with vibrant, urban campuses in Boston, Massachusetts, in nearby Chelsea, Massachusetts, and at several satellites and instructional sites throughout the Greater Boston area. This position is responsible to lead a proactive integrated media relations process by planning and executing strategic media and public relations campaigns that increase impact of the College's goals, strategies and initiatives.
Report to the Executive Director of Integrated Marketing and Communications.
Identify stories and coordinate writing and placement of news stories in various owned, earned and shared media including but not limited to press releases, media pitches, web stories, media mentions, media alerts, feature stories, key messages and talking points.
Maintain an on-going awareness of the community college landscape in higher education with current issues and narratives on the local and national level.
Utilize the College's social media platforms to target and follow influencers sharing news with the various vertical markets and audiences.
Promote student achievements to help drive enrollment, retention and persistence, in addition to brand awareness and reputation.
Manage and drive the online newsroom generating content and provide media reports including analytics evaluating news traffic across platforms.
Respond strategically to queries with appropriate statements and information while cultivating relationships with reporters, editors and producers.
Perform writing and editing tasks as needed, including development of the College's marketing voice and application to website and other college channels.
Manage media relations tools and systems including inquiries and stories and maintain a story bank, media lists and expert content stakeholders on key topics.
Cover college-wide events and provide support and structure for coverage from other college participants including the College Events and Cultural Planning department.
Collaborate and contribute with other IMC directors on direction of magazine story lists and other publications.
Provide crisis communication support for the College, including working with the Emergency Management Team. Off-hours required as needed.
Assist with managing part-time student and freelance writers with assignments.
Fill in for Executive Director as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.
Minimum five years of experience in professional public relations/media relations setting.
Ability to work evening and weekend hours as required by news cycle.
Experience in managing a newsroom and writing press releases and articles for digital and print publications.
Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills. Proven ability to write quickly and under time constraints.
Advanced writing, editing, fact-checking and proofreading skills.
Experience writing for different digital marketing channels including website and social media.
Experience in working with media monitoring and producing media reports.
Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student population.
Master's degree in associated field
Community College experience
Trendkite monitoring software experience with reporting capacity
Higher Education experience working in or collaborating closely with marketing and communication departments (community college a plus)
Salary Range: $ 85,000.00 - $95,000.00
