Coordinates and develops sales for a college or division program.
Acts as liaison for a program with potential clients; makes contact by telephone, mail and in person to promote the program.
Develops proposals and appropriate budgets for sales contracts.
Develops policies and procedures, and promotional materials, for sales operations.
Represents the college or division at professional conferences, trade shows, meetings, etc.
Travels in the U.S. and abroad, as necessary, to negotiate contracts and conduct demonstrations.

Bachelors and 3 years experience
Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
Responsibilities of the Publicity Coordinator:
The Publicity Coordinator is responsible for publicizing all APP books, authors, and programs. This position reports to the Assistant Director and duties include:
Coordination of all publicity for APP books, authors, events, and programs: The publicist is responsible for creating and executing a publicity campaign that will maximize media attention for APP books, authors, and events. He/she writes press releases; develops press kits; oversees the mail out of books to reviewers; oversees production and mail out of advance galleys and F&Gs; develops and maintains relationships with the media; distributes regular publicity updates; and organizes media clips.
Coordination of author events: The Publicity Coordinator works with partners across the country at schools, libraries, bookstores, and community centers to schedule speaking opportunities for authors; proposes panels and workshops for presentation at professional conferences; promotes these events to the media to obtain media coverage.
Coordination of social media: The Publicity Coordinator is responsible for overseeing APP’s social media outlets, which at this time includes Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr, and Twitter. The coordinator creates invitations to events, posts about APP books and authors, and develops and implements social media campaigns to promote books, authors, and events.
Provides support to Sales and Marketing staff: The publicist works closely with the sales and marketing staff to provide the sales force and key accounts information regarding publicity activities for APP books. Together they will prepare information for sales reps; help produce and mail each season’s catalog; and participate in trade shows and conferences.
Maintenance of media and marketing files and databases: The Publicity Coordinator is responsible for keeping the media databases as up-to-date as possible. This involves seeking out new leads as well as confirming current contacts.
Conferences and Trade Shows: The Publicity Coordinator will work with the Assistant Director and Marketing Coordinator on all aspects of conference and trade show attendance, including determining which conferences APP should attend, preparing marketing and promotional materials to increase booth traffic and sales; and finalizing the logistics (travel arrangements, booth furniture, author participation) of each conference.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills and the proven ability to prepare exciting and creative publicity materials are required. Candidates should have three years experience in publicity or marketing, preferably in the book industry. Also required are excellent organizational, computer, and Internet skills. Must be able to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable but not required.
