Job Purpose Towson University is accepting applications for a Marketing and Merchandising Manager in the University Store. Under the direction of the University Store Director, responsibilities will serve as the primary on-line Community Manager, developing and supporting promotional strategies, student/TU community partnerships; maintain marketing calendar and budget; plan and execute events; conduct and analyze market research and maintain copy and graphic standards.
Description The Marketing and Merchandising Manager serves as the primary Community Manager for social networks, including the University Store Facebook Page, Twitter, Foursquare, etc. Manages page administrators and content; maximizes fan engagement; creates content guidelines. Develops a communication strategy using content, pictures, videos, contests, ads, etc. Develops and hones our onsite and off-site University Store marketing strategy. Supports a strategy to improve the customer experience and assists with yearly University Store catalog copy, design, distribution and promotion. Supports and partners with Art Services for advertising, in/out of store displays/posters and University Store message. Follows business and seasonal trends/events; conducts and analyzes market research. Prepares and maintains annual Marketing calendar, plans and budgets, working with Store Director. Develops a monthly/bi-monthly newsletter. Identifies and implements plans to draw more traffic to website. Supervises General Merchandising Staff. Assists in the coordination of merchandise distribution and maintains excellent visual merchandising standards on the sales floor. Conducts regular merchandising meetings and coordinates with merchandise buyers. Rotates and changes storefront windows and on campus display windows; resets sales floor and displays as needed.
Hires, trains, schedules and evaluates staff including a full time merchandiser and events coordinator and student employees. Maintains secure cash control for the operation of point-of-sale terminals; assists cashiers with proper procedures; processes and approves refunds and voided transactions; provided coin/currency exchange for cashier as needed. Provided back up to operate POS terminal to assist with customer service and timely transaction processing; obtains readings for POS terminals and clears the daily record of business activity through the register controller at the end of the day. Assigns cashiers daily work duties; determines product selection, order quantities and retail prices to maintain appropriate margin structure. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree and three years of related marketing and merchandising or retail customer service related experience. Strong Social Media and website navigation skills. Thorough knowledge of retail sales operations and merchandising practices and procedures; ability to communicate and interact effectively with customers, campus community, vendors and employees. Highly organized and detail-oriented approach to work, with strong planning skills; ability to manage, coordinate and complete multiple projects concurrently. Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop or similar programs, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher. Basic Photography and Graphic design skills. Prior supervisory experience preferred.
