SUMMARY
The Senior Architect, Marketing Automation advances SHRM's marketing automation strategy by building, testing, and optimizing automated lifecycle journeys within Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO) and Adobe Marketo Engage. This role partners with marketing strategy teams and Business Intelligence to ensure automations are continuously improved to drive engagement and conversion.
Responsibilities
JOURNEY ORCHESTRATION
- Build, configure, test, and manage multi-step automated journeys across email, SMS, web personalization and other channels.
- Develop testing strategies (A/B, multivariate, journey experiments) to optimize segmentation, messaging, and cadence.
- Identify automation gaps and recommend enhancements to ensure alignment with audience needs, governance standards, business objectives.
GOVERNANCE & PLATFORM RELIABILITY
- Maintain documentation and governance standards for building campaigns and automated journeys.
- Monitor live automations to identify errors and performance issues and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Lead platform governance adhering to naming conventions, platform best practices, and user permissions within AJO and additional marketing technology platforms.
- Ensure campaigns and automations align with privacy and compliance guidelines to maintain a positive customer experience.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL PARTNERSHIP
- Partner with campaign managers, channel leads, and marketing stakeholders to align automation strategies with business priorities.
- Work with Business Intelligence to align journey execution with approved data sources and audiences.
Education & Experience Requirements
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, data analytics, business or equivalent experience or relevant equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
EXPERIENCE
- Five (5) or more years of experience in marketing automation, email marketing, or digital marketing, preferably in both B2B and B2C environments.
- Hands-on experience with Adobe Marketo Engage and Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO).
- Experience analyzing campaign performance using Marketo, AJO, Customer Journey Analytics (CJA), or other marketing analytics tools.
- Experience with CRM platforms (Salesforce preferred) and integrating them with Marketo and marketing technology platforms.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to effectively leverage artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and improve overall work quality.
- Understanding of lead scoring, audience segmentation, personalization, and marketing automation best practices.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively across teams.
- Background in marketing automation and marketing technology systems, with hands-on expertise in Adobe Marketo Engage and familiarity with journey orchestration platforms such as Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO).
Certifications
- Adobe Journey Optimizer Business Practitioner preferred.
- Adobe Marketo Engage Business Practitioner/Expert a plus.
Physical Requirements

Work Environment
Hybrid Position (3 Days In-Office, 2 Days Remote):
- This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with Tuesday through Thursday in office and Monday and Friday remote. Employees must be available during standard business hours, with core hours beginning between 8:00AM 9:00AM and concluding between 5:00PM 6:00PM.

The hiring range for this position is $90,000 to $110,000 per year. This range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
