The School of Public Health is seeking an experienced and creative Communications Specialist who will be responsible for assisting the school's departments with internal and external communications, including marketing and digital content. Working as an integral member of the school's communications team, the Communications Specialist will assist with the development of marketing materials for academic programs; design, coordinate, and assist with writing and editing department newsletters. The incumbent will work closely with the Department Leadership and liaise with University Communications and Marketing. The incumbent will report to the school's Communications Director to ensure department communications align with and are amplified by those of the school and university. The incumbent must demonstrate an understanding of design and communication technologies as well as project management methods. Proficiency in marketing strategies, media communications, and public affairs is required, as are exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Experience working in academic settings is preferred, and the incumbent must have strong organizational and management skills in addition to the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently. The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Bachelor's degree required with 3-5 years' experience, preferably in a university environment. This is a hybrid position, with three days in the office and two days remote each week.
Job Summary
Develops moderately complex web and print content and marketing. Acts as strategic contributor for communications team and creates diverse marketing materials for marketing team. Attends meetings designed for content planning and development. Ensures consistent messaging and maintains University brand and style.
Essential Functions
Candidate must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both in writing and verbally; must possess high-end reasoning and problem-solving abilities; must be able to manage multiple priorities and tasks, often under deadlines. The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Physical Effort
The position is largely sedentary; however, employee must be able to travel within the School of Public Health building as well as across the University campus in order to attend meetings at various locations. Must be able to carry the weight equivalent of a laptop computer.
