Communications and Marketing Coordinator
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Communications and Marketing Coordinator advances Vital Ground’s communications goals through diverse digital, print and in-person outreach, developing innovative marketing strategies and messages while serving as the organization’s primary social media administrator.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES/DUTIES:
- Increase Vital Ground’s public visibility and expand its donor base by researching and developing new digital marketing strategies, messages, partnerships and content.
- Improve trackability of digital outreach through increased implementation of Google Analytics, Wordpress reports and other data.
- Assess current digital marketing campaigns and research new opportunities for advertising via streaming services, banner ads, geo-fencing and other formats.
- Help develop a new Marketing Plan to optimize the organization’s overall advertising budget.
- Lead Vital Ground’s social media outreach as the primary content producer across numerous platforms including Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, with a total audience of over 90,000 accounts.
- Set and execute the annual social media plan.
- Publish engaging posts and story updates on a daily basis on primary platforms (Instagram and Facebook), utilizing Vital Ground’s photo and video database and emphasizing key conservation messages.
- Assess and improve Vital Ground’s presence on secondary platforms (YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest and potentially TikTok).
- Generate engagement, new followers and website traffic through use of periodic mission-driven social media advertisements, timely responses to comments and messages, and outreach to potential influencers.
- Periodically produce engaging, mission-driven written content for Vital Ground’s website, blog, semiannual print newsletter and other occasional writing platforms.
- Periodically maintain and refresh various portions of Vital Ground’s website through its Wordpress interface utilizing its photo and video database on Google Drive.
- Collaborate with Membership and Donor Services Coordinator to help grow Vital Ground’s monthly giving program by spearheading digital campaigns and helping produce donor relations content emphasizing monthly support.
- Collaborate with Development staff on outreach and cross-promotion for Vital Ground’s Business Partners program and other periodic fundraising initiatives.
- Occasionally represent Vital Ground at in-person and online events such as community bear fairs, conservation conferences, webinars, public meetings and other opportunities.
- In collaboration with Communications Director, help develop new goals and strategies to grow the communications program to better support Vital Ground’s mission.
- Assist Communications Director as needed with other print and digital outreach projects.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Business/Marketing or related field, or comparable professional experience.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong social media and web skills, including knowledge of and experience with:
- Wordpress
- Google Analytics
- YouTube
- TikTok (preferred)
- Basic video editing software (preferred)
- Adobe Photoshop and InDesign (preferred)
- Effective planning, research, collaboration and time-management skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Position will be based in the Missoula, MT area with a flexible/hybrid schedule balancing work from Vital Ground’s office and remote work, as dictated by program needs.
- Occasional travel and weekend work required for board meetings, project visits and in-person outreach opportunities.
