About the position
Responsible for building and strengthening internal and external relationships, managing customer relations, and implementing strategies designed to increase revenue and acquire new business opportunities. This position has the responsibility to provide quality leadership and communications to a team of salespeople, along with problem-solving and collaboration with marketing and other internal business partners, in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives and regulations..

Day in the life
- Partners with senior leadership to create key strategies, critical objectives and decisions affecting the business unit and revenue/profit targets. Conducts high quality business development, creates key community and customer relationships, and performs job solicitation in the marketplace, in partnership with other Company leaders, marketing and the business development team.
- Collaborates with various internal departments to create and implement business development strategies that will expand market share, increase brand awareness, revenue, and profits, and ensure strong customer satisfaction. Collects key market and customer information to prepare proposals in response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Partners with existing customers to strengthen relationships, grow service offerings and develop proactive plans for growth and expansion.
- Researches new markets and emerging market trends. Leads the development of a strong pipeline of new business opportunities through direct or indirect customer contact. Creates new partnerships and builds strong relationships with vendors, distributors, and internal business partners.
- Participates in strategic business planning. Presents market research to the marketing department and senior leadership, recommending strategies to improve financial performance and customer satisfaction.
- Formulates, communicates, and implements strategies for account management to ensure strong business relations are properly established, strengthened, and maintained. If leading a team, creates standards of performance and key management strategies for the business development team to drive sales and superior customer service.
- Reviews prospect and proposal activities, including monthly sales revenue, profitability, and budgets. Coaches team on proposal adjustments and monitors all sales activities, with a focus on meeting customer expectations related to quality and service.
- Reviews and monitors the annual business development event calendar. Ensures schedules are met and various aspects of the proposal and marketing materials are persuasive and accurate. Negotiates and secures/closes key new opportunities when necessary. Participates in trade shows, conferences, workshops, and other networking events as needed.
- If leading a team, provides regular and high-quality hiring, communications, mentoring, coaching, problem-solving and training to staff and other co-workers at all levels as needed. Advises and coaches employees and provides performance feedback regularly.
- Participates in the annual financial budget process and maintains alignment with Companywide financials. Stays informed of new and changing Company procedures, policies, materials, technologies, techniques, and practices. Establishes and maintains policies and processes.
- Consistently makes decisions in an attentive and safe manner to ensure the safety and health of self and others.
- Utilizes LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.
- Promotes and models the Company mission, vision and values through exercising sound and ethical business practices, championing all elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and providing high quality services and programs as they relate to clients, subcontractors, co-workers, suppliers, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in business administration, marketing, construction management or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum 10+ years of experience with account management and leadership, marketing and/or sales, preferably in the electrical construction industry. Minimum 5 years of experience directly managing people.
- Demonstrated experience in achieving or exceeding large-scale annual sales targets and managing a high-volume workload while paying strong attention to quality. Skills to read, interpret and understand financial documents, contracts, plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Experience creating and successfully executing marketing and business development strategies. Experience and skills working closely with proprietary information and maintaining confidentiality. In-depth knowledge of the construction industry and marketplace.
- Knowledge and experience with Customer Relationship Management and Content Management System software.
- Excellent business analysis, quality management, budgeting, costing, contracting and mathematical skills. Strong financial acumen and critical thinking skills. Knowledge and experience with traditional and digital marketing tools, research methods using data analytics software and social media marketing.
- Exceptional listening, presentation, negotiation, conflict management and persuasion skills, and the ability to influence potential customers and employees at all levels, including senior management.
- Demonstrated excellent business development, relationship building and client communication skills. Superior verbal and written communication skills, including high quality documentation and report preparation.
- Exceptional ability to coach, mentor, motivate and develop, provide support to build high performing, highly engaged teams and provide organizational and leadership guidance through periods of significant transition. Strong leadership, hiring, collaboration, mentoring, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with and facilitate diverse work teams.

20-30% Travel expected
Salary Range
$145,000 - $233,800 annually, based on experience and qualifications
