Manages and develops the editorial content of the Dana-Farber and Jimmy Fund web sites. Develops interactive concepts and programs to enhance traffic and participation at the sites. Provides comprehensive quality and accuracy assurance for all web publications. Leads the technical and design staff in the continual development and design of the sites.
Manages technical and design staff in the continual development of high-quality web sites.
Manages the budget for the Web Site operation.
Guides both communications staff and topic experts in other divisions on appropriate site contributions and on uses of the web to compliment and enhance institutional programs.
Generates interest and maintains relationships with key institutional experts who contribute to the site.
Writes original material for the web site and edits content from other publications for use on the web.
Designs and implements interactive programs.
Edits all material for use on the web to assure quality, continuity of message and accuracy.
Creates editorial policy recommendations and guides contributors in policy compliance.
Writes, develops, and edits material on complex medical topics as well as institutional services, including: cancer research, cancer patient resources, DFCI initiatives, on-line patient support, chat sessions with M.D.'s, fund raising programs.
Works with vendors and consultants for technology and design upgrades.
Maintains editorial decision authority including content, editorial priorities and scheduling. Makes editorial policy recommendations to Chief of Communications.
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in English or Journalism required, with medical writing or scientific writing background preferred.
Experience as senior editor and team manager with 8-10 years of professional writing, and editing (at least 2 years writing for the web).
Must be able to coach knowledgeable experts to deliver clear and concise material on complex subjects.
Basic web technical skills.
The ability to lead an interdisciplinary professional team and to deliver on deadline.
Excellent writing and editing skills and the ability to set and maintain high editorial standards.
Enthusiasm and the ability to garner support and interest from contributors throughout the Institute.
